EVERY YEAR, THE CIPDH-UNESCO HONORS LOCAL PUBLIC POLICIES IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN THAT ADVANCE EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND NON-DISCRIMINATION.

The CIPDH-UNESCO introduced the annual CONSTRUIR IGUALDAD award in 2018 as an initiative to honor and promote local public policies that support diversity and inclusion in cities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The award also aims at helping raise awareness of these policies to position them as benchmarks, thus promoting the exchange of experiences in the region. Additionally, it seeks to highlight the strategic role of local governments within the framework of the 2030 Agenda and in line with SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities.

The first edition took place in 2018, and applications were received from 7 countries and 25 cities in the region.

The 2019 call for applications is currently open.
